Working Cotton
ReviewA young girl narrates, using Black English, the story of her day in a cotton field. She expresses her feelings of pride, hope, fatigue, impatience and acceptance in the work of her family and herself. The plot can certainly be understood by rather young children. It's implications are more apt to be recognized by older students with some awareness of migrant labor. Related Areas of Carol Hurst's Children's Literature Site
